Villae maritimae, linee di costa e portualità: i modelli laziali e flegrei e le soluzioni stabiano-sorrentine

Abstract

Le grandi ville di Stabia, rinvenute lungo il pianoro di Varano, costituiscono un gruppo di strutture di notevole interesse fra le residenze di lusso di età romana, caratterizzato da elementi specifici tanto nelle soluzioni architettoniche quanto nell’accessibilità marittima e nella gestione del rapporto con il mare e la costa. In questo contributo si riflette sul modo in cui la particolare conformazione del territorio stabiano possa aver stimolato la creazione di soluzioni originali, fino alla nascita di una vera e propria sotto-tipologia.

The great villas of Stabia, found along the Varano plateau, constitute a group of structures of considerable interest among the luxury residences of the Roman age, characterized by specific elements in the architectural solutions, in the maritime accessibility and in the management of the relationship with the sea and with the coastline. This contribution aims to reflect on the way in which the particular conformation of the Stabian territory may have stimulated the creation of original solutions, up to the birth of a real sub-typology.
